Program Note:
Written for guitarist Colin Davin, Another Sky is a through-composed work for solo guitar that opens with a thematic call-and-response, the echoing voices marked by repetition of the same pitch, with timbral variance achieved through alternate fingerings. A resonant and changing harmony is present throughout in the tolling of chords built on open strings. Inspired by Emily Dickinson’s poem, “There is Another Sky,” the piece invites you into a world of its own, with a natural flow and sense of lost time, requiring a performer of great skill and sensitivity to execute difficult passages in an effortless manner. —Erin Rogers (2013)
