Hypnotize was commissioned by Erica Dicker and Dana Jessen.

Program Note:
Two hyper-note-reading-improvisors, adept in finding the freshest-of-fresh sounds on their respective instruments, are challenged to apply quick-changing foot pedals to an over-wrought, noisy texture that transfers shamelessly from wet-to-dry land via helicopter.

It is also worth noting that P. Diddy (known in 1997 as Puff Daddy) produced “Hypnotize” a hit-single by American rapper, The Notorious B.I.G., sampling the beat from Herb Alpert’s 1979 hit “Rise” which was written by Andy Armer and Herb’s nephew, Randy “Badazz” Alpert. 22 years later, I felt compelled to resample a micro-loop of these hybrid beats and name the piece Hypnotize in honor of the late Christopher George Latore Wallace (aka Biggie Smalls / The Notorious B.I.G.).
