Program Note:
Composites or composition materials, are engineered or naturally occurring materials made from two or more constituent materials with significantly different physical properties which remain separate and distinct within the finished structure.

Urban Composites (2012) is a set of short sketches for saxophone quartet based on recorded samples from three landmark settings in Queens, New York. Each sketch explores a distinct idea: a single pitch, a directional plane, a moment of compounded sound, that is extrapolated and expanded upon texturally while never diverging from its source. The combined result is a composite of three to be performed in succession (or as independent pieces). —Erin Rogers (2012)
