Program Note:
Breaking Waves, for tenor saxophone, is performed solo, with optional amplification. The small electronics setup includes a dynamic microphone inserted into the bell of the instrument and a ring modulation FX pedal which allows for moments of controlled feedback and expanded pitch band. Breaking Waves can be performed individually or set of two works alongside its sister piece, Third Contact. Both works were composed and premiered in 2019, though not set to score notation until 2025 at the encouragement of Geoffrey Deibel, who is the first to perform Third Contact and Breaking Waves from notated score.
