The Astoria Symphony opens its 6th season with a remarkable program. Miranda Cuckson performs Alban Berg’s haunting Violin Concerto, one of the few orchestral pieces to feature saxophone as part of the symphonic palette. We will also hear the world premiere of Steve Horowitz’s Mix/Remix. In honor of Hispanic heritage month, we also feature a Latin American Folk Song Suite, a newly commissioned work by the young Puerto Rican composer Angelica Negron, and Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas’ bombastic tour de force La Noche de los Mayas, featuring the Queens College Percussion Ensemble, directed by the Aaron Copland School of Music Professor of Percussion, Michael Lipsey.
